'Direct' does not need to have its antifreeze replaced by an engineer every few years (servicing costs), since it uses no antifreeze. Using a 'freeze tolerant' system, does away with the complications of traditional 'In Direct' solar panel systems.

In tests conducted by the DTI (Department of Trade and Industry), 'evacuated tubes' were found to be far less problematic (25%) after installation than all traditional style solar panel systems. This is simply down to it's simplicity.

In the same DTI tests, evacuated tubes were found to be more efficient for heat gain, than 'flat panel' style solar panels. Combining all the advantages of all the systems available, 'direct' evacuated tubes are currently the best solar collectors for the UK climate. 'Direct' evacuated tubes have improved solar efficiency and can easily accomplish your 10% SAP obligation in most cases.

If you suffer from hard (limescale) water, a simple magnetic de-scaler will work well with our evacuated solar tubes system. We can supply this as part of the kit, or you can source your own locally.

How does it work ?

1. Evacuated tubes let the sun’s heat and light in and makes them very hot.
2. A 'solar controller' with variable speed electric pump.
3. This pumps cold water, via a insulated pipe, from the bottom of your 'existing' hot cylinder into the tubes.
4. Here the water heats up.
5. Water then delivers itself, 'direct', to the cylinder. That’s it!

Is 'direct' solar OK for my property ?

1. If you can face the tubes mainly unshaded roughly towards the sun. South, southwest or southeast roofs are ideal. Even east or west roofs usually offer 75-85% of peak performance.
2. Easily, if you have a hot water cylinder, with its cold tank above, usually in the attic. Thermal stores are an easy fit, too.
3. Yes, if your hot water cylinder holds over 110 litres (waist height)
4. Listed buildings, conservation area,national parks etc, may need consent. Please consult with your local planning officer.

Hard water and limescale area's

Unlike other 'direct' solar panels, you do not have to buy expensive salt based water softeners. A magnetic descaler is sufficient to keep hard water from damaging your solar kit. We can supply this, within our DIY solar kits.

A word about quality
